Training Division

The Training Division works with SHFD Administration and other instructor to fulfill the training and safety needs of the entire department. This division coordinates, implements, and delivers all the department training programs and activities. The Training Division supervises and evaluates all new fire personnel, coordinates department in-service trainings, and evaluates the overall effectiveness of the training program. The division is also responsible for ensuring the safety of all personnel during emergency and non-emergency incidents, functioning as dedicated Incident Safety Officers.

Division Chief Mike Pinkerton

Division Chief Pinkerton joined the fire service as a volunteer with College Grove in 1993. He joined the Spring Hill Fire Department in 2006 where he's been a Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, and Captain. He was promoted to Division Chief in January 2026. He has been awarded as Lieutenant of the Year in 2007 and Officer of the Year in 2024.

Chief Pinkerton moved from the Operations Division to the Training Division in 2020. He helps facilitate the department in-service trainings, employee continuing education credits, and the SHFD Recruit Academy classes. 

He is currently working on his Bachelor's in Fire Administration. His certifications include Fire Officer 3, Instructor 2, Incident Safety Officer, NFPA 1403 Live Fire Instructor, AHA CPR Instructor, and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT).

Captain Pinkerton enjoys his role in the Training Division as he believes that every recruit has the ability to succeed, but it takes a great instructor to help get them there.
