SHFD Assist. Fire Chief Bryan to serve at National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend

Spring Hill Assistant Fire Chief asked to serve at National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend

Spring Hill Fire Department’s Assistant Chief of Training/Safety, Mike Bryan, has the honor of being asked to serve at the 38th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend next month at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The service, held on Sunday, October 6, will honor 92 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2018, and 27 firefighters who died in the line of duty in previous years. Every October, the Foundation sponsors the official national tribute to all firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year, drawing thousands of people across the country.

Assistant Chief Bryan, also a fire chaplain and a member of the Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains, will join 20 other chaplains and support staff from across the state to lend their services. The team will pull 10 rehab-rest support trailers all the way to the Memorial in Maryland to help accommodate the massive crowd expected at this important event.

At the Memorial, Bryan will be assisting families of the fallen in the chapel as they grieve their lost heroes, and has been asked to say the prayer during the candlelight vigil.

“This is a true honor to be able to serve and assist the families of the 119 firefighters who lost their lives in service to their communities last year,” Assistant Chief Bryan said. “This Memorial Weekend will be a time for all of us in fire service, and as a nation as well, to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice those firefighters gave while doing their jobs, and grieve the losses that their families and friends continue to endure.”
