[ARCHIVED] Rippavilla ownership conveyance to City

Rippavilla Plantation

The Spring Hill BOMA in January 2017 took official action toward accepting ownership of the historic Rippavilla Planation property, the process of which is expected to be complete in April. This decision, which was researched and considered for many months by a Rippavilla Due Diligence Panel, appointed by the mayor, will allow the City to preserve this important historic site that played such a notable role in the U.S. Civil War in this area. The property will go into a conservation easement so it cannot be developed, protecting it for generations to come.

By acquiring Rippavilla, the City will immediately add 98.4 acres of park space and a museum, greatly expanding the recreation, education and entertainment components that we can offer our residents and visitors. This also is an opportunity to expand on the already exciting events and programming offered at Rippavilla, and City leaders believe we can quickly resolve any funding challenges with the nonprofit's operations by expanding on the event offerings. The City also is in a suitable position to take on this type of property, with the hotel/motel occupancy tax recently going into effect, allowing for a dedicated funding source to put toward tourism-related endeavors.
