Stormwater Rate Adjustment Goes Into Effect July 1st

Storm Drain Generic

Beginning July 1st, residential and commercial property owners in Spring Hill will start seeing higher stormwater rates on their monthly bills.

In a recent meeting, at the guidance of a third-party consultant, BOMA passed an ordinance to increase stormwater ERU (equivalent residential unit) rates for customers of the City of Spring Hill.

The rate, which had not been changed since 2009, was found to be insufficient for keeping up the stormwater needs throughout the city. The new rate increase establishes an allocation of funds to maintain the stormwater department, allows the capability to make necessary repairs to existing stormwater infrastructure, and creates funding for necessary capital improvements as the city continues to grow.

Effective July 1, 2023, the rate for single-family dwellings with less than 10,000 square feet of impervious space (houses, driveways, sheds, etc.) shall increase to $5.25 per month. This is a $1.75 increase over the previous rate of $3.50.

The monthly residential rate will then increase to $6.75 on July 1, 2024, and $7.75 on July 1, 2025. Beginning in 2026, an escalation of $.25, or an amount equivalent to the rise of inflation, will be added to the rate.

As for commercial property, owners will pay a rate of $5.00 per month multiplied by their property’s ERU value. This is a $1.50 per month increase over the previous rate of $3.50.

The monthly commercial stormwater rate will increase to $6.50 on July 1, 2024, and $7.75 on July 1, 2025. Beginning in 2026, an escalation of $.25, or an amount equivalent to the rise of inflation, will be added to the rate.
