SPRING HILL, TN - After nearly a decade, Mayor Rick Graham has announced the start of the longstanding I-65 / Buckner Road Interchange project. TDOT has awarded the Design-Build contract to Bell & Associates in Nashville, Tennessee, and the projected completion date for Spring Hill’s new gateway is May 2023.
The project includes the extension of Buckner Road from Buckner Lane to Lewisburg Pike across I-65 with a Diverging Diamond Interchange. The City of Spring Hill kickstarted the project with a $25 million BUILD grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation in late 2018.
“I am pleased that the design phase of this project will begin now, as it has been one of the most important goals during my service as Mayor of Spring Hill,” said Graham. “I am excited to work with TDOT and Bell & Associates to bring this important gateway project to reality that will serve to improve traffic for the citizens and businesses of Spring Hill and the surrounding region. I share our gratitude for the hard work and cooperation of FHWA, TDOT, City staff and Volkert in bringing this project to this important milestone. One hurdle after another is being accomplished for one of Spring Hill’s greatest road projects. The selection of this regional company is outstanding news for the continuous success of this project!”
According to a press release from TDOT, the tentative schedule is as follows:
January 2021 – Fall 2022 Project design
Spring 2021 – Fall 2022 Right-of-way acquisition, permit approvals, and utility relocations
Spring 2022 – Spring 2023 Construction
“The City of Spring Hill’s diligence in securing this competitive grant put this interchange on the fast track,” said TDOT Commissioner Clay Bright. “TDOT has an aggressive schedule to meet, but the Design-Build contracting method allows us to tap into the innovation of the private industry and deliver the project in a much shorter timeframe compared to traditional design-bid-build projects.”
More information will be posted on the City’s website over the coming months. For more information on the I-65 Buckner Road Interchange and the Design-Build method of project delivery, visit https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/i-65-buckner-road-interchange.html
