OCTOBER 2020 UPDATE:
With the approval of funds for R.O.W. acquisition approved at the 10/19/20 BOMA meeting, the City will begin contacting property owners immediately beginning with the multi-tract holders. Project bid date is still planned for March 2021 assuming acquisitions are complete.
Tom Lunn Road is a narrow, rural roadway with two, 9-foot-wide lanes and no curb and gutter in south Spring Hill. This project is proposed to expand the two-lane road to two 12-foot-wide travel lanes, add 2-foot-wide shoulders on each side, and reconstruct the road for a better travel surface. The project, which is a total of 6,200 feet long, will improve Tom Lunn Road from where it connects to Port Royal to John Lunn Road on the north side of the roadway.
The design for this project was funded in the 2017-18 fiscal year budget. Construction is expected to get underway in 2020.
The BOMA’s funding of the design of the Tom Lunn Road improvement project was to ensure adequate infrastructure was being put in place before a significant housing development was built. In this case, multiple developers will be constructing hundreds of new homes along Tom Lunn Road in the coming years. The City requested the developers to pay in advance their share of adequate facilities tax to facilitate initiating the project in front of their developments on the southern end of Tom Lunn Road. City officials are looking at funding the remaining portion of the improvements to ensure the road is brought up to the same standard for the full length of the roadway before these new developments are constructed.
