K-9/Traffic
The Spring Hill Police Department currently has six officers assigned to the task of Traffic Safety and two officers assigned to work the K-9 Unit. While the K-9 Unit falls under Criminal Investigations and the Traffic Unit is part of Field Operations, the two units often combine to assist one another in the area of traffic enforcement.

Although the K-9 Unit’s main responsibility revolves around the interdiction of illegal narcotics, they often work community events where citizens can meet the dogs and their handlers. The K-9 Unit also assists surrounding agencies with drug interdiction and is often called to assist in school searches and on traffic stops.

Some of the responsibilities of the traffic unit are basic enforcement of State and City traffic laws, traffic crash investigations, and data collection as related to specific areas within the city in an attempt to reduce traffic crashes and reduce the number of fatalities related to those crashes. Our traffic unit can also assist the Criminal Investigation Division in crime scene reconstruction using equipment within the traffic division.
