Solid Waste Removal

The City of Spring Hill provides weekly curbside pickup of all solid waste (garbage). Recyclables are collected every other week according to your address.

All Solid Waste (non-recyclables and recyclables)

Refer to the list of assigned garbage days to find out when your garbage will be collected, and then the Recycle Calendar to view the odd/even recycling collection schedule and holiday calendar. Garbage needs to be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on your assigned day to ensure it is picked up.

One trash bin and one recycle bin will be provided to you. Customers must use one of the provided bins as any other containers will not be serviced.

Additional containers can be rented through Waste Management. If you wish to rent a container, Waste Management can be contacted at (800) 607-9509. Container rentals are billed separately by Waste Management.

You can report missed pickups by clicking here.

HOLIDAYS

The City of Spring Hill's garbage and recycling collection contractor, Waste Management, observes six national holidays per year, including New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. When one of the holidays falls on a weekday, trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day that week. For example, Thursday pickups will be on Friday, and Friday pickups will be on Saturday.

As usual, as WM finishes its routes each day, the trucks will go ahead and pick up any garbage cans already placed at the curb for the next day. However, the delayed route will be run on the same streets again the next day, ensuring all routes are fully collected for the holiday week. Skipping ahead to collect cans already at the curb for the next day helps WM to get ahead on its routes in order to catch up by the end of the holiday week.

Recyclables

Recyclables are collected on the same day that your garbage is collected, but only every other week, according to your address. Please see the garbage pickup by address schedule along with the Waste Management Residential Curbside Collection Calendar to determine the week of your route.

A container for recycling will be provided and is easily identified by the yellow lid. Place all your recyclables in your recycling cart together - no need to sort - and place your cart by the curb no later than 6 a.m. on your collection day.

Recyclables are collected on the same day that your garbage is collected, but only every other week, according to your address. See the list of accepted recyclables.

Chemicals

Please do not dispose of chemicals in your household garbage. Chemicals, which should always be disposed of at a special chemical drop-off point, can cause fires inside of the garbage trucks.

Brush and limbs

Brush and limbs cut by the homeowner less than 10 feet in length and placed at the curb will be collected by Public Works. The collection route now runs Tuesday – Friday. One truck runs a route on the south side (south of Duplex Road), while a second truck handles the north side of town. All brush and yard waste (except grass bags) should be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Please keep in mind that the timeline for brush collection can vary depending on how much brush must be collected throughout the City within a given week. For example, if it’s a week following a thunderstorm, it can cause Public Works to collect far more brush than usual and can often take up to two weeks to collect all of the brush piles. Generally speaking, Public Works tries to collect all brush within a two-week period.

Grass Clippings

Bagged grass clippings are collected weekly, the day after your regular designated garbage collection day. Grass bags should be placed at the curb in biodegradable paper bags. This type of waste will not be picked up if placed at the curb in plastic bags. Yard waste and grass clipping bags should be no more than 40 pounds (any bags over 40 pounds will not be picked up). Grass clippings and leaves are the only things allowed in the paper bags.

Bulk / Large Item Pickup

The Public Works Street Department will collect larger items (those Waste Management will not pick up), such as refrigerators, washing machines, stoves, dishwashers, barbecue grills, furniture, exercise equipment and other similar larger items.

Public Works will not pick up batteries, tires, paint, chemicals, propane tanks, etc.

Larger sized items are picked up weekly on Mondays. Items should be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. Do not place items over water meters or near power boxes.

To schedule a large item pickup, please visit our Bulky Waste link.

Construction debris

All contractors are required to haul away their own debris. Debris may include, but not limited to, tree limbs and other yard clippings, re-modeling debris, glass windows, or doors, and broken appliances installed by someone other than the homeowner. Homeowners not in compliance may receive citations from the City Codes Department.
