Field Operations

Field Operations Mission Statement

As a department empowered by its community, the Spring Hill Police Department will strive to provide an environment in which the citizens can feel free from the fear of crime, through education, aggressive impartial enforcement, prevention and detection of crime.

The purpose of the Patrol Division is to protect life and property by enforcing State Laws and Spring Hill Municipal Codes. Some of our responsibilities include patrolling assigned locations, discovering and preventing the commission of crime, apprehending criminals and offenders, writing citations and making arrests, conducting investigations, mediating disputes, administering first aid, performing traffic control functions, preparing/maintaining documentation and providing information/assistance to the general public.

The Patrol Division is divided into 4 separate 12 hour shifts and is comprised of 2 Lieutenants 7 Sergeants, and 40 Patrol Officers.

The Spring Hill Police Department currently has one officer assigned the task of Traffic Safety and two officers assigned to work the K-9 Unit. The two units often combine to assist one another in the area of traffic enforcement. Although the K-9 Unit’s main responsibility revolves around interdiction of illegal narcotics, they often work community events where citizens can meet the dogs and their handlers. The K-9 Unit also assists surrounding agencies with drug interdiction and are often called to assist in school searches and on traffic stops. Some of the responsibilities of the traffic unit are basic enforcement of State and City traffic laws, traffic crash investigations and data collection as related to specific areas within the city in an attempt to reduce traffic crashes and reduce the number of fatalities related to those crashes. Our traffic unit can also assist the Criminal Investigation Division in crime scene reconstruction using some of the equipment within the traffic division.

K-9/Traffic Mission Statement
Enhance livability through traffic safety education, accident prevention and community based problem solving. We will strive to provide vigorous, highly visible traffic enforcement, in depth traffic analysis and interdepartmental cooperation for major crime scene reconstruction.
