Wastewater Collection System

Sewer Collection Department Responsibilities

The City of Spring Hill’s Sewer Collection Department operates and maintains more than 150 miles of underground sewer lines, manholes, lift stations, etc. The function of this system is to convey wastewater from the customer to the City’s wastewater treatment plant. Daily operations include inspection and maintenance of lines, manholes, pumps, etc.

Fats, Oils & Grease Ordinance

The department is also responsible for the enforcement of the City’s FOG (fats, oils, and grease) ordinance imposed upon all food service establishments. The purpose of this ordinance is to reduce the amount of grease and undesirable materials from entering the sewer collection system helping to prevent stoppages and treatment difficulties at the treatment plant.
